On the advice of my wife, I read this book before reading Lord of the Rings and I’m really glad I did. The Hobbit is all about the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and how he comes to find the ring. It really gives you some historical background to go on before you read the trilogy.
The Hobbit is a much more playful, light-hearted story than the rest of the LOTR trilogy, and I would even recommend it to younger children. I would have loved reading this book as a boy, but I still enjoyed it as a twenty-something adult…
