Big News . . .

Posted by Mary Beth on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

We’ve been waiting for weeks to share our big news, and the time has finally come. After tons of prayer and thought, and sharing and praying with the people closest to us, we have decided to adopt a baby boy from Ethiopia.

David Copperfield

David CopperfieldI’ve read many Dickens books, but this is by far my favorite. It is a great example of a well-crafted novel. Plus, this novel has some of the most memorable characters in all fiction. Who can forget honest Peggoty, the baffling Betsy Trotwood, or the slimy Uriah Heep, not to mention Wilkins Micawber? My younger brother Billy read it a couple of years ago, and we really enjoyed getting to discuss it together and critique several movie versions of it. There has yet to be a movie production of David Copperfield that captures the wonderful complexity of the novel.
On a funny side note, when Casey and I were dating, TNT aired a made-for-TV movie version of David Copperfield. I kept telling Casey that I was going to record it and that my friend and I were going to watch it together. He kept thinking that I was talking about the illusionist by the same name and thought I had developed some kind of interest in magic tricks.
