Caleb with his CakeOn Saturday, we celebrated Caleb’s 1st birthday with a party at a nearby park. We had about 30 of our close friends and family come to wish him a Happy Birthday.

My dad cooked lots of hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone to enjoy, and Mary Beth made an amazing Lion birthday cake that Caleb loved digging into.

It was really funny watching him eat cake for the first time. He didn’t immediately dig into it like I thought he would, but instead he delicately picked some icing off the top with his fingers before grabbing bigger and bigger handfuls.

The party was a lot of fun, and it was great to spend some time with friends and family at the park. It’s still hard for me to believe that my little boy is already one year old. It seems like just the other day that I was holding him for the first time in the delivery room. Time really does fly…

My prayer for Caleb is that he will become a man who seeks after God with all of his heart. I want him to know God intimately and personally. I hope that he will someday grasp how “wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.”

    Caleb’s Journal

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family, Spiritual

nullA few months before Caleb was born, Mary Beth had a brilliant idea for me to start a journal for Caleb. Hopefully, it will be a place where I can write down some of God’s wisdom for him to read when he’s a young man someday.

I know there will be some teenage years when he doesn’t want to listen to his dad’s advice, but my hope is that I can share some of that advice in this journal for him to read when he’s older. I only have a few journal entries so far, but as he grows I will continue to write down my thoughts and prayers for him.

On a similar note, being a dad is great! I love getting to come home from work and see a visible change in Caleb’s emotions when he sees me. It’s such a great feeling to know that he already loves me. I pray that I can make him proud to have me as a dad just as Proverbs says:

    Proverbs 17:6
Grandchildren are the crown of old men, And the glory of sons is their fathers.

As a boy, I can remember thinking that my dad was the coolest person in the world, and I still think extremely highly of him. My hope and prayer is that I can teach Caleb what it means to be an authentic man by my actions and example, just as my father did…

Well, I can’t write a post without putting something in here for the grandparents. So, here’s an audio clip of Caleb talking and cooing the other night. Enjoy!

    Great Grandparents

Caleb got to meet his first set of great grandparents last night. My paternal grandparents drove down yesterday to meet Caleb and it was wonderful to see them meet for the first time. My grandma held him for so long that I didn’t think she was going to let grandpa hold him, but she finally gave in! :)

It’s really been wonderful to see everyone’s first reaction when they meet Caleb. Some people just sit back and quietly take in all of his features, while others just ooh and awe as they proceed to make baby noises at him.

Well, we’re all going up to the cabin for the Memorial day weekend and I’m REALLY excited! I’m looking forward to relaxing, playing a little golf, doing some swimming, and showing Caleb the river. We’re just going to have a great time!

If any of y’all have any weekend activities planned, let me know about them in the comments!

    Caleb Goes to Church

The day started off with Caleb and me making Mary Beth breakfast in bed with roses. Everyone was hungry, so we all decided to share the Mother’s Day meal of bacon, eggs, toast, and OJ. :P

After breakfast, we all got ready to go to church. Caleb looked so cute in his little baby gown and he was definitely ready for his first outing since the hospital. We arrived at church just a few minutes late, and Caleb definitely got the “rock star” treatment. Mary Beth’s parents had saved us a couple of seats near the front and everyone at church just kept staring at him like he was the first baby they had ever seen! Well, he probably wasn’t the first baby they’d seen, but he was definitely the cutest! :P

Near the end of the church service I got up, introduced him to the church, and had one of our elders pray over him. It was a very special time that I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

Later, I found out that I wasn’t the only proud one that wanted to show off Caleb. My dad somehow found a way to slip Caleb into his Mother’s Day sermon. He’s only two and a half weeks old and he’s already famous nationwide!

After church we went over to Mary Beth’s parents’ house and had a great Mother’s Day dinner. After that, we finally went home and crashed…

After knowing Mary Beth for almost 7 years, it’s been such a blessing to see what a wonderful mother she is becoming. It makes me so proud to be her husband…

To all the moms out there…HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

    Caleb is here!

Our son, Caleb, was born this morning at 3:43 AM. He weighed 7lbs. 13oz.,was 20 1/2 inches long, and is extremely healthy (and cute!). I’m so proud of Mary Beth for all of her hard work and determination last night. She pushed for about two hours and then the doctor determined that he would have to come out via a c-section. She’s resting now and will hopefully be able to come home sometime this weekend.

I’m just a proud papa and I hope everyone will continue to pray for Mary Beth’s speedy recovery and for Caleb as he continues to grow up. I’m going to get some rest and then go back to the hospital. I hope to hear from everyone soon!
