    Caleb Goes to Church

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family, Spiritual

    null

The day started off with Caleb and me making Mary Beth breakfast in bed with roses. Everyone was hungry, so we all decided to share the Mother’s Day meal of bacon, eggs, toast, and OJ. :P

After breakfast, we all got ready to go to church. Caleb looked so cute in his little baby gown and he was definitely ready for his first outing since the hospital. We arrived at church just a few minutes late, and Caleb definitely got the “rock star” treatment. Mary Beth’s parents had saved us a couple of seats near the front and everyone at church just kept staring at him like he was the first baby they had ever seen! Well, he probably wasn’t the first baby they’d seen, but he was definitely the cutest! :P

Near the end of the church service I got up, introduced him to the church, and had one of our elders pray over him. It was a very special time that I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

Later, I found out that I wasn’t the only proud one that wanted to show off Caleb. My dad somehow found a way to slip Caleb into his Mother’s Day sermon. He’s only two and a half weeks old and he’s already famous nationwide!

After church we went over to Mary Beth’s parents’ house and had a great Mother’s Day dinner. After that, we finally went home and crashed…

After knowing Mary Beth for almost 7 years, it’s been such a blessing to see what a wonderful mother she is becoming. It makes me so proud to be her husband…

To all the moms out there…HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

    Web Outreach

Author: Casey | Posted in: Cool Sites, Spiritual

The internet is often used as a place to spread anger, hatred, and lies, but it can also be used as a tool to spread love and truth. I have come across a few sites lately that have been trying to do the latter:

    Internet Evangelism Day – May 7, 2006

They’re trying to promote the web as a great place for outreach. From their site:

We wish to communicate the outreach potential of the Web to the worldwide church. We therefore offer a worldwide annual focus day – for Christians to discover the potential of this new medium.

I think this is a great idea! It’s time for churches to stop being afraid of the web and start using it as a tool for the Lord.

Secondly, People2Pray is a website for managing and sharing prayer requests with others. I know this doesn’t exactly fall under the category of outreach, but I think this is just another example of people embracing the internet as a tool to help them grow in their spiritual walk. It’s also neat to know exactly how many people are praying for you.

Finally, I’m sure you may have noticed the little, blue icon in the top left corner of my site. I have discovered a website (Coming out May 7th) where believers will be able to share their testimony of faith. I think it will be a very cool thing to see how others have come to faith and their journey along the way.

I hope others begin to view the web as a tool in their outreach, rather than a hindrance.

It’s finally finished. Mary Beth put the finishing touches on Caleb’s room this week after many hours of hard work. I helped her paint a little bit and my grandpa helped me install a chair rail, but she did the rest!

I hope Caleb will have many restful nights and wonderful memories in this room. I know the paint and decorations will change over the years, but I hope the scripture on his wall will remain a constant theme throughout his life.

    70 days and counting

    Doesn’t she look beautiful?!?

I can’t believe we only have a couple more months left until Caleb is born. Mary Beth is doing very well. Her energy level is low, but that’s to be expected when carrying a watermelon around all day!!

It’s hard to know if we’ll be ready to be parents, but we keep praying that God will give us the wisdom we need to be good parents for Caleb. One thing I’ve done to get ready is to start a journal for him. I hope it will be something that he can look back on when he’s older and see the times when I was really proud of him, and when I was frustrated with him. I think it will be a good tool for him to have as he thinks about being a father someday in the future.

Now, onto other baby news: We are about 99.5% completed with his room, but we just have a few more finishing touches to add before he gets here. We are going to paint a bible verse on the wall and we’re still trying to figure out which one. Here’s our favorite so far:

I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart…      Jeremiah 1:5

If anyone has any other verses to recommend, just let me know in the comments. I’ll be posting a video and photos of the new baby room in the coming weeks…

    Dustin Kendall
    Spc. Dustin Kendall

Last weekend Allan, my brother-in-law, found out that one of his best friends, Dustin Kendall, was killed in Iraq. Dustin went to college with Allan and they were roommates.

I didn’t know Dustin extremely well, but what I did know of him made a very good impression on me. Dustin was always smiling. He was a very funny guy that could always make you laugh, and he was a very likeable person that left you feeling positive.

Allan and Brad were interviewed by some local news stations the other day to talk about his life. After watching the news stories, I was very proud of Allan. Allan has always been a very loyal friend, and he should be very proud of how he was such a good friend to Dustin.

Let’s all join in by celebrating the sacrifice that Dustin made for our freedom and keep his friends & family in our prayers…

    Giving Thanks

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family, Spiritual

Thanksgiving Dinner Table We had a wonderful Thanksgiving! My wife’s family and I all decided to head up to their cabin to celebrate and give thanks. There was tons of food, family, and fun.

While we were there, we decided it would be fun to read through “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” again so we would have the story fresh in our minds before the movie comes out in a few weeks. It was great to just sit by the fire and listen to a wonderful story told by a wonderful author.

We also did a little bit of eating while we were there. My mother-in-law and my wife made an amazing Thanksgiving feast that was enjoyed by all! I probably ate too much, but hopefully I can run enough this week to cancel it out. :)

On Friday all of the girls went shopping and the guys went golfing. We had a great time golfing, but it was so cold that we had to quit a little bit earlier than planned.

Overall it was a great weekend. Mary Beth and I even found time to go pick out our Christmas tree and put up our Christmas lights.

I’m so thankful for all of the great things in my life: my wife, my future child, my family, my church, my friends…the list could go on and on. Thank you God for all that you do for me…

    The Screwtape Letters on Stage

Author: Casey | Posted in: Spiritual

On Friday night, Mary Beth and I went to see a theatrical rendition of C.S. Lewis’ book: “The Screwtape Letters.” It was a very good performance by a group called Mustard Tree Arts. I had read the book before and after seeing the play I was reminded that not all of my thoughts are my own. The play was very humorous, as well as very serious.

    Leaving a Legacy

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family, Spiritual

On Sunday night I made the drive up to Searcy, AR to go see my grandparents receive the Distinguished Christian Service Award from Harding University. It was so great to see them receiving recognition for all of their service and ministry to others over their lifetime.

I’m very proud of my grandparents, and I hope that someday I can carry on their legacy of faith to my children as they have to all of us.

WAY TO GO GRANDMA & GRANDPA!!

    Uplifting Weekend

    Crawdad at the creek

Our Promise Keepers trip this past weekend was great! It’s always an uplifting experience to worship with 20,000 men.

We also had a little free time to play around on the farm. We swam in the creek, caught some crawdads, rode four-wheelers, and ate good food. We had a great time, but I just wish it were longer…

    Promise Keepers 2005

Author: Casey | Posted in: Spiritual

Tomorrow morning Billy, Allan, and I are driving up to a Promise Keepers conference. I’m pretty excited about going, even though I went to a Promise Keepers conference in Dallas a few years ago.

There’s just something about being in a stadium with thousands of other men who, just like you, are committed to being better. Not only committed to being better fathers and husbands, but more faithful believers and stronger leaders.

I’m also excited because I get to go see my parents and a lot of my other family that lives in the area where the conference will be held. They all live up on a farm, so we might get to do some four-wheeling and other fun stuff. I can’t wait!
