    God’s Grace

Author: Mary Beth | Posted in: Living Radically, Spiritual

Last night, I watched True Grit for the third time, this time sharing the experience with my brother Allan and sister-in-law Lindsay. I knew Allan was going to love it, so I couldn’t wait to watch it with him. It’s a beautiful story, and yet quite humorous at the same time. The book is even better.

    5 Months in Pictures

Author: Mary Beth | Posted in: Home Life & Family

I was just scrolling through our blog and realized that I haven’t updated about our family since Christmas! Well, we’ve been busy. I rarely am able to write a full paragraph without interruption, which means non-essential blogging has been on the back burner. But today, a sweet friend came over to play with the kids and give me a break, so I now have the chance to blog. Here’s a summary of the last five months at the Picker house.

In January, we were surprised by a wonderful snow day, a rare treat around here.

    T-Shirts

Author: Mary Beth | Posted in: Adami Tulu

The Adami Tulu team is selling t-shirts to raise funds for our on-the-ground transportation costs for our trip this summer. We are hiring two vans to drive us to Adami Tulu and provide our daily transportation needs. Think $$$$. So to offset some of our costs, we are selling an Adami Tulu edition of our orphan t-shirts.

I have to say that I think I like these better than the first round of t-shirts we did last year. We added “Adami Tulu Project” to the bottom, changed the t-shirt colors, and changed the quote on the back. Read More | Comments

    Funded.

Author: Mary Beth | Posted in: Adami Tulu, Living Radically

    Our God is so good.

Since October we have been praying, asking God to bring the money and the people together to make this Adami Tulu project happen. At times I was confident it would come together; other times I was scared to death. I was often overcome with a thought I’ve had several times before in the last few years . . . “The money, the money, how on earth will we get the money.”

    Adami Tulu Update

Author: Mary Beth | Posted in: Adami Tulu, Living Radically

We are excited to share that yesterday we reached our goal of raising $7,000 for the Adami Tulu School! It is amazing how quickly God has brought this money together and how He is providing for these precious children. However, we’re not done yet. While $7,000 was our own personal goal, the real goal is $35,000. We’re working with a team of people to raise this money, and as of today we have raised just over $23,000.

Here’s the breakdown for the use of the money, if you’re interested: Read More | Comments

    Created for Care

Author: Mary Beth | Posted in: Adoption, Living Radically, Spiritual

We just got back from a week in Georgia. We had a great visit with Casey’s family, even though I didn’t take a single picture, and then I had the wonderful opportunity to spend the weekend at the Created for Care Retreat.

The instant I heard about the retreat last fall, I knew this was for me. A special weekend for adoptive moms sounded like exactly what I needed. It’s no secret that the last six months have been quite challenging for us. I felt like I was living my life in a dry, lonely place, and just the thought of a retreat with other women on this same road was like water to my soul.

    Adami Tulu, Ethiopia

Author: Mary Beth | Posted in: Adami Tulu, Living Radically

With the start of the new year, Casey and I are gearing up for a new project, one that we’ve been praying and thinking about for several months. As we’ve said many, many times before, God has used Africa, Ethiopia specifically, to change us. We will never be the same.

    Farewell 2010

Author: Mary Beth | Posted in: Home Life & Family

The year of 2010 has been a year of incredible blessings for our family, but it’s also been a whirlwind of activity and change. It’s amazing to think that a year ago, we had not decided for certain if we were ready to pursue our second adoption. We didn’t even click “send” on our application to Holt until January 7, and here we are, less than a year later, with our baby girl who’s been home for nearly five months. What a completely unpredictable blessing!

We are so thankful for Evelyn. We know that God hand-picked her for our family, and her beautiful smile and precious giggle bring us so much joy. And while, the process was not at all what we expected, we see God’s hand in it, providing for both her and us.

    Christmas with the Pickers

Author: Mary Beth | Posted in: Home Life & Family

Our Christmas was beautiful, loud, fun, crazy, sweet, overwhelming, and slightly out-of-control, all the things we’ve come to expect from life here at the Picker house.

One of my favorite new traditions that we began this year was our Jesse Tree. The Jesse Tree was a great way to celebrate Advent with young children. Every night we read a story from our Jesus Storybook Bible . . . Read More | Comments
