    Caleb the Crawler

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family

Well, Caleb is now crawling. He’s been doing a little bit of crawling over the past couple of weeks, but over the past few days he’s really getting the hang of it. So, I thought I’d post a video for everyone to see.

I’m not exactly sure why I was in such a hurry to see him crawl. He used to just lie in one spot and play with his toys, but now you’ve got to keep an eye on him at all times. He’s so much fun to play with and we’re really enjoying being parents (most of the time!).

Leave a comment and let me know what you’ve been up to…

    A Major Milestone

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family

Allan and CalebMy brother-in-law, Allan, graduated from college with a BA in Psychology on Saturday. It was a proud moment for all of our family as we watched him accept his diploma and walk across the stage.

When I first met Allan he was 15 years old and on the brink of rebellion. Over the next few years in his life, he began to change and mature in ways that some people never experience. I saw the culmination of this change on Saturday at his graduation. Allan and I have become close over the past few years and I really value our relationship. I’m very proud to be his brother-in-law.

I know that many people prayed and hoped for the day when this might happen. God is faithful!

Allan, we’re all so proud of you! Congratulations!

    Christmas Thievery

Author: Casey | Posted in: Random Thoughts

Imagine that you are an average man or woman living on a fairly busy street. As it is Christmas you have decided to celebrate the season by displaying on your lawn the plastic light up Nativity scene that you have exhibited every year for the last decade.

Now perhaps you are somewhat attached to this plastic Nativity scene. You have had it for many years, and, although it is cheap and plastic and the paint is chipping off, it has come to represent to you what the season is all about. For if God could humble himself to be born in a barn surrounded by animals with only shepherds to greet him, surely He doesn’t mind being immortalized by plastic light-up effigies displayed in front lawns across America.

So you feel a certain fondness for your Nativity scene. There may have been no room for them in the inn, but you have built Mary and Joseph and Baby Jesus their own stable out of 2 X 4s, complete with a manger and hay. So, with this in mind, imagine that you have set out your nativity scene for the world to see, or at least for all the traffic down your busy road to see, and you feel that with your added cross made out of red and white Christmas lights in the background this is perhaps the finest Nativity scene in the county.

Further imagine that one morning you back out of your driveway, or perhaps walk to the street to get your morning paper, and you discover with great shock that someone has stolen your Baby Jesus! If you feel the same as this man or woman does then you might have also been compelled to display a sign like this in your yard:

    Wanted: Jesus Thief

This sign was actually displayed at a house that’s just down the road from us. I saw it and just had to stop to take a picture. :P

    Celebrating Advent

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family, Spiritual

Advent WreathOur family has decided to celebrate the season of Advent this year. I had heard of Advent before, but we didn’t officially celebrate it when I was a child.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Advent, I found a brief description on Wikipedia:

Advent (from the Latin Adventus, sc. Redemptoris, “the coming of the Saviour”) is a holy season of the Christian church, the period of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Christ, also known as the season of Christmas. It is the beginning of the Western Christian year.”

Mary Beth was the one who actually suggested that we celebrate Advent as a family this year. I thought this would give us a good family tradition to continue throughout the years as Caleb gets older.

Tonight we lit the first candle which symbolizes the hope that Jesus gave us when He was born. I know that too many times I have let the busyness of the Christmas season distract me from what this time of year is all about: Jesus.

So this year, let us all remind our family and friends about the true meaning of Christmas.

On an unrelated note, I have completely redesigned my website. It’s a modified version of Jetpacked’s Shooter blue theme. Let me know what you think of it in the comments…

    Santa Comes Early

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family

On Saturday night, we were over at our friends’ house and Caleb was playing in their son’s exersaucer. He kept bouncing and laughing like crazy!

After seeing how excited he was about bouncing, we started to think about getting him a bouncer for Christmas. We shopped around some of the different stores, looking for the best prices, but had decided to wait a little longer before buying one. Then last night, a shiny new Jumperoo showed up at our house! Santa must have brought Caleb an early present for being so good. ;)

After assembling the bouncer, Caleb proceeded to bounce non-stop for over an hour, laughing all the way!

    Giving Wisely

Author: Casey | Posted in: Cool Sites, Spiritual

Charity NavigatorI recently ran across a very cool site called Charity Navigator. This site gives you TONS of information about charities from all over the U.S. One of the more important factors our family considers when giving to a charity, is the percentage of donations that actually go to help the cause. I believe that God calls us to give generously and be good stewards of His money. If I come across a charity that squanders donations, then I believe I should give my money elsewhere.

Our family has been extremely blessed by being involved with Compassion International. We have two adopted children: a boy in Haiti and a girl in Mexico. Compassion makes it very easy to send messages to our children from their website. They also send us regular letters from our kids. We started giving to Compassion before I had discovered Charity Navigator, but after reviewing Compassion’s rating I was even more impressed with them.

If you are looking to be blessed by giving to others, then I would suggest that you check out Charity Navigator to aid you in your decision.

    One Night at the Movies

Author: Casey | Posted in: Hobbies, Spiritual

Movie PosterOn Friday night, my wife and I had the rare opportunity to venture out and see a movie. So, we looked at what movies were showing at our local theater, only to be disappointed by the terrible movies that were showing. Then, I saw a movie that I had not heard about nor seen any previews for. I commenced to “google” the movie’s title: “One Night with the King” and stumbled upon the official site. After watching the trailer, my wife and I decided that this would definitely be a movie worth watching.

“One Night with the King” is about the biblical story of Queen Esther and the courage she showed in order to save the Jewish people from annihilation at the hands of the King. The movie itself was very true to scripture and didn’t have any major inaccuracies that I noticed.

I was very impressed with the quality of acting in the movie, and very surprised to see some big name actors starring in the movie (ie: John Rhys-Davies). All of the scenery really tricks the viewer into believing that they are witnessing this story unfold in ancient Persia.

If you haven’t yet seen this movie, I would HIGHLY recommend going out to support it. As Christians, if we expect to see more wholesome, quality movies in the future, then we should support movies such as this one.

Leave a comment if you’ve seen the movie, or plan on seeing it soon!

    The BIG Update

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family, Random Thoughts

I know, I know… I haven’t posted anything for about a month, so I thought I would just cram everything into one big update. Here goes nothing…

Well, the biggest news of all is that my brother-in-law got engaged! He took Lindsay on a hike and surprised her with a proposal at the top of a mountain. They have set a date for June 2nd and Mary Beth and I have the privilege of serving as a bridesmaid and groomsman for the wedding. We’re very excited for them!

Caleb is now 5 1/2 months old and very active. He’s started eating rice cereal and a little baby food. He’s not crawling yet, but he rolls around on the floor a lot. He’s such a joy to be around and a lot of fun to laugh with!

I’ve recently started serving as a House Church leader in our church. I’m very excited to see how God will be able to use me in this leadership role. Keep our family in your prayers as we begin to serve in this ministry.

I finally ordered a new hard drive for our computer! It has tons of storage space, so I’ve been working on capturing all of our back-logged videos that we never had space for. So, that means there will be many more videos on the site in the future.

Well, I think that’s about all the latest news I can think of at the moment. I’ll try to be a little better about posting more often. Let me know what all of you have been up to in the comments

    Little Giggler

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family

Caleb has been giggling now for a couple of months, but Mary Beth and I have been unable to capture it on video before. On Friday night he was in a particularly good mood, and we finally got it on film!

He is growing up so quickly, so I want to be sure and capture as much on video as I can before he passes on to a new stage in his life. I think it will be neat when he’s older to look back at how cute of a baby he once was.

On another note, if any of you have some neat family/baby videos to share, you can post them on one of many video websites out there. Here are just a couple that I like:

If any of you have any family/baby videos you’d like to share with me, I’d love to see them! Let me know in the comments…

    Back from Atlanta

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family, Travel

nullWe flew to Atlanta for the Labor Day weekend to see my parents. In an attempt to save money and time, we drove a few hours instead of flying from our hometown. We did end up saving some money, but not really much time because our flight was delayed. So, if you throw in the two hours it took to drive, the three hours we sat at the airport, the one hour flying time, and the one hour drive back to my parents house, we only ended up saving about an hour by flying. :) On another note, Caleb did pretty well on the plane. He slept most of the time and the rest of the time he just looked around and played with his toys.

It was great to see my parents recovering so well since their accident. My mom had a successful surgery on her arm and she keeps getting better everyday. My dad has a little bit of pain in his shoulder, but at least he doesn’t have to eat through a tube! They’re both doing great!

We also got to see my new niece, Cammie. She’s just a little bundle of cuteness! I kept telling my sister that she reminds me of a little Popple how she rolls up into a ball all the time.

It was good to go back to Atlanta with different circumstances this time. We were there to have fun and give thanks for my parents amazing recovery. Our family is truly blessed…
