    Fresh Look for Picker Point!

Author: Casey | Posted in: Projects

We’ve been needing an overhaul on our site for a while, but it’s so hard to find the time between work and life with three kids! We had our previous design on the site for almost two years, so it was definitely time for a change. Thanks to my friend, Zach Cheatham, for the amazing family photos that we’re using throughout the site.

    Goodbye Celebration

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family, Parenthood

Today we had a goodbye celebration at the care center with all of the Holt staff and nannies. We enjoyed a traditional coffee ceremony and other snacks. Here are a few pictures from today.

After the goodbye celebration, everyone went shopping. Evelyn and I stayed behind to take a nap at the hotel. After napping, we played and I got these adorable pictures of her!

We returned from Durame today after meeting with Evelyn’s birth mother. It was an AMAZING experience that has helped me to fully understand my daughter’s history and love her even more (if that’s even possible!).

After returning to Addis, we were able to go to the care center and bring our sweet girl back to the hotel. After returning to the hotel, we gave her a bath and her mommy enjoyed dressing her in some pink clothes.

    At the Beach!

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family, Travel

We’re having a great time! No oil to speak of, and the boys have been having lots of fun playing in the water. We’re about half-way through our vacation, so there’s still lots of fun to be had! We’ll post more pics when we get home.

Yesterday we went on a dolphin cruise and Josiah was jamming out to the Jimmy Buffett music that was playing on the boat. We got a great video of his dance moves…

    We Passed!

Author: Casey | Posted in: Adoption

Have you heard the news?  We passed court!  Evelyn Amenech Picker is officially, and forever, our daughter!  We are so thankful to our God who redeems the orphaned and sets the lonely in families.

We are hoping to travel to Ethiopia sometime in July or early August to bring Evelyn home.

So . . . in an effort to ramp up our t-shirt fundraiser, we are having our first, and perhaps only, GIVEAWAY! On May 25, we will draw two names to receive a free t-shirt (you pick the size).

To enter the contest, do the following:

    1) Blog, tweet, or facebook about our t-shirt fundraiser.  Include this link in your post: http://www.caseypicker.com/shirts
    2) Leave a comment on this post telling us what you did.

That’s it! We will enter you one time for each posting (so if you blog, tweet, and facebook you will get three entries).  Please make sure to leave a comment as that will be our only way to track who is entered in the contest.

Spread the word about our t-shirts and help us raise money to cover our travel expenses!

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been using Resurrection Eggs as a teaching tool to help Caleb understand what Easter is all about. He has really gotten into it and wants to get out the eggs every night.

So, for those of you who need a reminder of why we celebrate Easter, here’s Caleb the “Teacher”:

    Ethiopia Day Three

Author: Casey | Posted in: Adoption, Travel

On day three, our entire group visited the Ethiopian National Museum. It was fascinating to see some of the ancient history of Ethiopia. There were many artifacts on display that had been used by Ethiopian royalty, but one of the most memorable was the emperor Haile Selassie’s throne.

This museum is also home to Lucy, the fossil. We went down to the basement to catch a glimpse of these famous remains, but unfortunately Lucy was in Seattle at the time. She’s been in New York all summer, so it sounds like she gets out a lot.

After the museum, we headed over to an internet cafe, where I was hoping to upload lots of pictures and share a lengthy blog post, but the internet was EXTREMELY slow. So, I was only able to post one small picture.

Next, we headed over to an authentic Ethiopian restaurant for lunch. Their traditional food is very good, so we really enjoyed this experience. We were able to spend some good time visiting with one of the other families that ate lunch with us. It’s always encouraging to talk with others who share our same passion for adoption.

After lunch, we headed back to the care center to spend some more time with our precious boy. Seeing all of the cultural sights of Ethiopia were fun, but they couldn’t compare to spending time with him!

After playing with Josiah for several hours that afternoon, we headed back to our hotel to rest. Later that night, the whole group journeyed out for a cultural dinner/show at a nearby hotel. This was a great highlight of the trip. We had more good food, while we enjoyed some traditional Ethiopian music and dancing. The dancers were amazingly talented and very entertaining.

When we finally arrived back at our hotel that night, we were both exhausted from the day’s events. That night we anxiously looked forward to the next day when we would travel south to Durame and see Josiah’s birthplace.
