Finishers

FinishersMy father-in-law and I woke up early this morning to go run the half marathon. It was about 32 degrees as we waited by the starting line to begin the race and Mary Beth, Lindsay, and Allan even braved the cold weather to come cheer us on. Our goal was to finish all 13.1 miles in under two hours, which would be about an average of 9 minutes per mile.

Everything was going great for me until about mile 9. My stomach started acting up and I had to slow down the pace. I told dad to keep going so he could reach his goal. He finished in under two hours with a time of 1:58 and I came in behind him at 2:08.

I didn’t meet the goal that I had set for myself, but I’m still proud of what I accomplished. I averaged less than 10 minutes a mile and despite feeling nauseous, I didn’t quit. For me, that’s nothing to be ashamed of.

I think I’ll probably take the next couple of weeks off from running, but I plan on running consistently for a long time. We’ll see, I might even want to run another half marathon next year!

What a great moment. I know you will remember today for the rest of your life. I’m so glad Allan ran with you. I’m so thankful that you are both so close. I wish I could have been there with you guys. How about you both stay in shape and come run the Atlanta 1/2 marathon this Thanksgiving with me? I need some motivation. I love you and am so proud of you!

Good job, Casey! It makes it an even greater accomplishment to finish when you are sick. I think something about running in the morning bothers you! You don’t ever get sick in the afternoon!

    Love,
    Mom

Casey persevered through adversity–that’s real courage!

That Atlanta trip sounds great. I need motivation, too.

Congratulations to both of you! I am proud of you. I just walk a mile in about 20 minutes four times a week and I really feel a lot
better than I have in a long time. Keep it up.

Casey – I didn’t realize you were a runner! That is definitely something to be proud of! I have always admired those who have the desire and/or the perseverance to run…I myself have attempted several times and have ended up being a quitter and not a “finisher”. Great job…you’ve inspired me to keep trying to reach my goal!

Casey-GREAT JOB! 10 minutes/mile is good especially in those hills! You should run with Natalie in the Chicago marathon, if she EVER does THAT again.

    Way to go Casey!

Way to go! I remember when I ran the half-marathon in Houston in 2004. Physically, it might be the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. I’m trying to get back into running and train for the Houston and LR marathons in 2008.

Great job! I have never run more than a 5K race, and probably never will because of my bad ankle joints. It is a great way to stay in shape, though, and you’ll only continue to get better as you keep up a good routine. Have a good, relaxing week!

    Great job Case!
