Our Family Mission

mission_statementMary Beth and I sat down last night to design our Family Mission Statement together. It took us a while to come up with an idea, but Mary Beth was the one who decided to use verbs to define how we wanted our family to be. We both sat at the computer for a little over an hour while I put some graphics together. It really was a 100% team effort!

I co-taught a class at church last fall based on the book by Stephen Covey, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families.” After the class was over, Mary Beth and I fully intended to write our Family Mission Statement together, but we never got around to it. So, we finally decided to “Put first things first” and come up with something.

I hope this will be something that we can hang on our wall and live by for years to come. I hope our great-grandchildren will look at this someday and be inspired by the mission that we have chosen to live by. I pray that it will truly be a blessing for our family!

    That is about the coolest thing I have seen. I have never seen a family mission statement in a visual format like that. Neat idea!

    Oh man, I like that. A lot.
    I also like your new design. I got notice you’d updated while I was tweaking my new in-between theme, which features the same reflective text header. So mine isn’t a rip-off. Honest. Great minds just think alike. :-)

    The Mission Statement you have put together is very good. It’s obvious that you have spent quite a bit of time thinking about this and portraying it graphically. We have a “book club” at my work and the first two books that we have gone through are “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and “7 Habits of Highly Effective Families”, so the topic of personal mission and family mission have been on my mind. I think you have done a great job with your Mission Statement. In my family, we haven’t quite gotten to the point of creating the Mission Statement, but we have gotten some input from every family member regarding what we want our family to be like.

    I was actually considering teaching the “7 Habits of Highly Effective Families” at Grace Chapel. I’d like to hear your experience when you taught it. I believe the contents of the “7 Habits” books can be life changing if applied. Of course, that shouldn’t come as a surprise since they are rooted in Biblical principle.

    Thanks for sharing this. It’s an encouragement to some of us “old people” to see the Godly focus that you and Mary Beth are demonstrating in your family!
