    Golfing weekend

Author: Casey | Posted in: Hobbies, Home Life & Family

What a great weekend! Me and the guys went to the Annual FIS Golf Tournament on Saturday and had a blast! Despite the extremely hot temperatures, we still managed to stay out of last place. :)

The two high-points of the day would have to be my father-in-law sinking a 72 foot putt during the putting contest to win $300, and Billy chipping one in from 20 feet off of the green to give us a birdie on the last hole!

Overall it was a great weekend with many close calls and high fives…

    New Golf Clubs!

Author: Casey | Posted in: Hobbies

I got some new golf clubs this weekend. My wife decided that she would buy me a new set of clubs because I’m a (and I quote) “great husband.” I was hesitant at first because we’ve been trying to save a lot more money lately to pay off my wife’s car, but I ended up getting them in the end.

After searching around on Saturday, I decided to get the Wilson Pro Staff Multi Metal clubs. I got a really good deal on them at Academy and took them over to the driving range. It was amazing how much better I could hit the ball with these clubs! I’m really excited to see how well our foursome does on Saturday at my company’s annual tournament. I’ll keep you guys posted…

Google Earth = Lots of Fun

Author: Casey | Posted in: Cool Sites, Tech

I know many of you have probably already seen this, but I just couldn’t help blogging about this great tool from Google. This program will let you fly virtually anywhere and view satellite photos of any location on the globe. It is free, but it’s recommended that you have a high speed connection and a relatively high-speed computer.

One of the main reasons that I’ve been playing around with this program again is because of a great site that I’ve found: Google Earth Hacks. Other people have posted cool locations/sitings in the downloads section that you can click on and immediately view for yourself in Google Earth. You have to download a .kmz file that can then be opened in Google Earth. Very cool!

» Check it out for yourself

    Much ado about Raining

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family

My wife and I decided to go out and celebrate this weekend because she has finally finished her Master’s Degree in English!! She has been studying for the past 10 months and finished her last course on Friday. Because of this momentous occassion, we decided to go out and see a performance of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing outdoors. We were all set for a great evening of theatre when, on the way to the park, we realized there were very dark clouds in the area. Being the optimist that I am, I thought it was just a little cloudy and it would blow over. Boy was I ever wrong!

We arrived at the park about an hour before the play was scheduled to start, and about thiry minutes later it started pouring. We had only brought one small umbrella to shield the both of us if it happened to rain, so we got drenched! It rained for about 15 minutes and then stopped, so the show could go on! We then enjoyed 30 minutes of the play before it really downpoured. This time we headed under the tent (the place reserved for high-priced ticket-holders) and waited. After 30 minutes of waiting, they decided to call the show…

So, we are supposed to get free tickets to another play, but we’ll have to do without Shakespeare for now. :(

    Fore!

Author: Casey | Posted in: Home Life & Family

This weekend was full of relaxation and golf. My wife and I went up to the cabin this weekend. Unfortunately, she had to go take a comprehensive exam for her master’s degree at Harding on Saturday, so my father-in-law and I decided to go brush up on our golf game. We played a round of 18 holes. The course wasn’t very crowded, so we were able to play at our own pace and concentrate on improving our game. I need all the help I can get when it comes to golf.

Last year, I participated in my company’s annual golf tournament. It was a scramble format and our team placed dead last! Needless to say, I’m hoping for a better finish this year.

It was quite an enjoyable weekend, and I can’t wait for our summer vacation to Florida. I hope it will still be there when the dust from Hurricane Dennis settles…

    Neuter sign

Well, Boo is back from the vet today. He had a little “operation” yesterday and seems to be doing well. I guess we won’t be seeing any little Boos running around any time soon! :)

    The Famous J & M Bookstore at Toomer's Corner

The Fourth of July weekend was a blast! Since some of our plans changed, we decided at the last minute to drive down to Auburn, AL and visit my wife’s grandparents. We had a great time! There was a lot of eating and fireworks involved, and we only had one close brush with death! (Billy almost got blown up by El Torro!!)

We drove almost all the way to Georgia border, and found Shelton’s Fireworks Warehouse. This place was huge! It was probably about the size of two Wal-Mart Supercenters, but instead of selling family-friendly items, they sell portable explosives. Overall, we had a great time with friends and family…

    New Site

Author: Casey | Posted in: Random Thoughts

Well, I made the jump from Blogger to WordPress. So far I’m really enjoying having more control over my site, but it’s still very much a work in progress.

I’m up here at Harding this morning with Mary Beth because I have the day off. I’m really looking forward to having a long weekend of fireworks and relaxation…

Let me know what you think of the new site, and don’t forget to update your bookmarks to www.caseypicker.com. Enjoy!
